Prepare and edit your assets

Lesson 4 of 7 · 15 minutes of practice

Organize references and correct an image without losing continuity.

1. A small asset package

Collect a reference for the object, another for the place and a style note. Use clear names: bottle-reference, table-reference, lighting-style. Record who created each asset and what permission you have to use it. Do not download images of people to imitate them without permission.

2. What continuity means

In a sequence, the viewer should recognize the same object. Keep a record of the color, cap position, table and light direction. A shared reference helps express what you want, but does not guarantee consistent results.

3. Correct one thing

If the bottle is right and the background distracts, ask to change the background. Do not rewrite the entire scene. If your editor offers a mask or selection, mark the area you want to change before editing. The names of these controls depend on the tool.

4. Editing prompt

Preserve the bottle, its color and proportions. Change only the background to a light-colored wall with no objects. Keep the direction of the light. Do not add text or new elements.

5. Save reversible versions

Keep the original and save the edit under a new name. Compare both at normal size and zoomed in. Check edges, shadows and reflections: a local correction can affect areas you did not want to change.

Your practice

  1. 1Prepare a package of three assets you own or have permission to use.
  2. 2Record authorship or permission and the features that must stay the same.
  3. 3Define a single edit and write its instruction.
  4. 4Submit a before/after comparison if you make the edit; otherwise, mark the area on a sketch and explain the planned review.
