From idea to script

Lesson 2 of 7 · 15 minutes of practice

Use an assistant to prepare a sequence without losing your intention.

1. Start with a human decision

An assistant can suggest options, but you decide the goal. We will introduce a generic notebook for people who want to organize their thoughts. The message is not that the notebook changes their life: it can accompany a break to write.

2. Write a focused brief

State the audience, message, desired duration and limits. Do not include private client data or material you cannot use. Ask for a short response you can review.

3. Working prompt

Act as a script assistant. Suggest a three-shot sequence for a short video about an unbranded notebook. Audience: people who want to set aside a moment to write. Message: a break to organize thoughts. For each shot, state the subject, action and framing. Do not invent benefits, testimonials or product facts. If a decision is missing, point it out.

4. Rewrite before producing

Turn the proposal into instructions you can observe. Change "an inspiring scene" to "a hand opens a notebook on a table beside the window". The first text expresses a feeling; the second defines an action. If you do not have permission to show people, use only the object.

5. Example sequence

Shot 1: a closed notebook on the table. Shot 2: it opens to reveal pages without text. Shot 3: a pencil rests beside the open notebook. These are three script decisions, not a promise that a tool will generate them without errors.

Your practice

  1. 1Write your brief in five lines.
  2. 2Ask for or write two three-shot proposals.
  3. 3Choose one and explain what you left out.
  4. 4Check that every shot has an observable action and includes no invented claims.
